What’s your LEAST favourite thing about Instagram?
How difficult it is not to compare yourself to every beautiful person you see on there. Let’s face it, Instagram is full of gorgeous people so sometimes after scrolling through it I can feel a bit crap about myself.
What’s your FAVOURITE thing about Instagram?
Gosh there’s loads! One thing that I think is amazing is that everyone can be themselves and express their own style. Everyday I always find new inspiration for outfits and I love it! Of course another favourite thing would have to be all the amazing people out there! I have had the chance to meet some wonderful people and without Instagram, that never would’ve happened.
How often do you shoot?
As often as I can. If I have a day off then I’ll meet up with my friend and we do bulk shoots where I shoot about 5 different outfits. But it is literally any when that I’m free. So if I’m grabbing a quick coffee with lets say Eli, I’ll ask him to get a quick snap of my outfit. But even in spare time I’ll try and shoot some pictures at home whether thats a mirror pic, flat lay or an interior one.
How do you gain more activity?
You have to be active yourself. So you need to like and comment on other peoples accounts and you will gain the activity back!
Who do you get to take your photos?
Pretty much anyone I am with! My boyfriend used to take most of them but as he is busy at University at the moment I get my friends to take them! But I’ve asked my mum, dad and my grandad before haha.
How did you begin to work with brands?
I randomly got an email from a brand asking if I wanted to collaborate and of course I said yes because I was so excited and then after that, I started getting more emails etc. I had been focusing on my Instagram for about a year to make it more fashion focused and really put a lot of effort into my pictures so if you are hoping to start working with brands/get recognise then try and make sure that your profile will fit the look for the brand/s you want to work with!
What is the best thing that has happened to you as a result of Instagram?
I got the opportunity to do a photoshoot for New Balance with JD Sports. Never in my life did I ever think my Instagram would lead to something like that. I also get the chance to go to loads of amazing events and of course I receive so many wonderful items.
Do you think it is too late to start an Influencer/Instagram career?
Of course not! If I’m being honest I do think it will be a lot harder than what it used to be but that just means you’ll have to work a bit more harder which won’t be a problem if you genuinely love it and want it as a career. If you just be yourself and have a real passion for it then you will shine right through and will go far. One thing I will say though is don’t just do it to get ‘free stuff’, that is the complete wrong intention. I’ve said this so many times but I really do mean it – you have to have a genuine love for creating content.
Do you struggle with the decision on how much private stuff you post?
Sometimes. I think it’s more the fact I worry people won’t give two hoots about it haha. I have had to create a personal account on Instagram where I can just post whatever and whenever I want which is really nice. But when it comes to IG stories I never really know how much to share because I really don’t know how much people care haha.
Best way to grow a following?
Be consistent with your posts, reply back to your comments, spread the love on other peoples images and be patient!
Best app to edit pictures?
Facetune 2 to whiten walls/pavements and smooth out skin.
Afterlight for dust effect.
VSCO for grain effect.
Retouch to get rid of people/unwanted items.
They are the main ones that I use but I know a lot of people also use Snapseed and Lightroom.
How long did it take you to start getting a lot of likes etc with your posts? It’s so hard.
Quite a while! It’s only recently this year that my pictures have been getting a really good amount of likes. It’s taken me a long time to build it up but girl I feel you. I know how hard it is and can feel like it will never change but just keep going and sooner it will increase!
Do you think you’re a celebrity?
Hell noooo. I am still a normal person! Never in my eyes will I be a ‘celebrity’ and I don’t think I would ever want to.
Who are you Instagram favourites to follow?
Oh my goodness there are loaaadssss!!!! But I’ll link some below that you definitely need to follow!
– Viktoria Dahlberg
– Matilda Djerf
– Amaka Hamelijnk
– Monica Barleycorn
– Laura Byrnes
– Jamie Firth
– Jo and Kemp
– Viviane Audi
Okay that’s just a few but there is sooooo many more accounts that I LOVE.
How do you edit your pictures?
I have done a blog post on it before which you can find here but to break it down again here are a few steps:
1. Go on to the app Facetune 2 and whiten the walls and pavement.
2. I then use the smooth tool and smoothen out my skin.
3. Sometimes I will use the detail tool and the vibrance to enhance a few things.
4. Go onto Instagram and use the filter Valencia. (I used to use the filter ‘Aden’ but I wanted a little change)
How do you keep such a great theme on your Insta?
Thank you so much! I always use the same filter for all my images which I guess helps. 99% of my images are taken during the day so the lighting is pretty much always the same. But I always plan my feed – so I’ll make sure that my images fit nicely next to each other. For example, if I wanted to post a picture of me against a white wall but the picture I posted yesterday had a dark background then I wouldn’t post the white wall picture because it would be too much of a contrast next to dark background one if that makes sense? So if that is the case then I try and find what I call a ‘filler photo’. (My definition of filler photo is an image that will sit in between two contrasting pictures to make them fit together and look ascetically pleasing.)
How do you cope with the negativity and keep positive in the public eye?
In all honesty, I don’t ever get much negativity on my profile which is obviously really good. I did have one nasty message about a month ago but I just blocked that person and deleted the message lol. :) I am actually a very negative person but I guess I just never share that side of me because I just feel like people don’t want to see that. But one thing that hit me hard recently was that life is too short so we need to have as much positivity as possible so I am definitely on the road to feeling positive all the time. But it sure is a work in progress for me.
Income of Influencers?
It really does vary on how many followers you have and much engagement you have. But to give you an idea, when I was on 20K I was charging about £300 for one post. A lot of other influencers said I was undercharging but I didn’t want to scare away brands/companies. But yeah the price really is dependant on the account.
Are you interested in interior design? As you’ve moved, would you post any pictures of that?
Yes I love interior design! There is still a few more finishing touches that need to be bought but I will most definitely be showing more pictures of my little home on Instagram!
