During this very odd time of 2020, one thing that has really hit the internet is the Whipped Coffee. The drink itself has origins from India, Pakistan, and Macau, where it is also known as whipped coffee or beaten coffee. The trend apparently started earlier this year when South Korean actor Jung Il-woo made the drink on TV. He gave it the nickname Dalgona for its resemblance to the traditional Korean Honeycomb Toffee of the same name. Under the hashtag #dalgonacoffeechallenge, people have been making this drink at home on TikTok and have helped it go viral. This drink is super fluffy and delicious!
Okay so, how do you make it you ask? In a jug or bowl, add two teaspoons of instant coffee, 2 teaspoons of sugar (I do 1 but if you like things sweet then go for 2) and 3 teaspoons of boiling water. Using a mini electric whisk/milk frother, you will want to mix that all together until you get a thick fluffy consistency which is pretty much double it’s original size. If you don’t have an electric whisk then you can do it by hand but it may take up to 15 minutes. I read somewhere that it’s better to whisk it back and forth/side to side in a zig zag motion and that you need to make sure that enough air is whipped into it so ideally, don’t use a small mug to do it in.
Then get your drinking glass, add a few ice cubes and some milk and pour the fluffy coffee on top and voila!!!
I personally only like mine in small portions hence why I use a teaspoon for measurements but I know a lot of people use tablespoons which of course, will give you a bigger frothier Dalgona. It really is delicious and pretty fun to make so definitely give it a go.
If you don’t have a milk frother (which I would highly recommend you do to make this coffee) then here are few that I quickly found! You can click on the image and it’ll take you straight to the website! Have fun making it!
